Imagine a Kajiado with faster commutes, fewer traffic jams, and a well-organized public transport system. That future is now within reach!
On January 21, 2025, leaders from the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA), Kajiado County Alliance of Residents’ Associations (K-CARA), and elected officials met to discuss major transport improvements that will change how residents move. Here’s what’s in store:
🚍 Better Public Transport with BRT
A new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system will introduce dedicated bus lanes on key routes, including:
✅ Kitengela to JKIA and Nairobi CBD
✅ Thika to Kiserian via Rongai
✅ Jogoo Road to Kawangware
✅ Kikuyu to Mama Lucy Hospital
✅ Kiambu to Kitengela
These modern buses will reduce travel time, ease congestion, and improve safety.
🚆 Kitengela to Become a Transport Hub

Kitengela is set to become a mega transport interchange, connecting buses, trains, and matatus in one central location. This will reduce congestion and boost local businesses.
🛣️ Smoother Roads & New Bypasses
To tackle daily traffic, major road expansion projects are planned:
✔️ Kitengela Outer Ring Road – An alternative to Nairobi-Namanga Road
✔️ Kitengela-Nazarene Road – To ease movement within Kitengela
✔️ Overpasses at busy junctions like Shalom Hospital
🚌 A More Professional Transport Sector
Matatu SACCOs will transition into structured Bus Operating Companies (BOCs) to improve service, safety, and management.
✈️ A New Airport for Kajiado?
Plans are underway for a Kajiado International Airport, which could ease pressure on JKIA and boost trade, tourism, and local businesses.
👥 Resident Involvement is Key
NaMATA and K-CARA will hold public forums and surveys to ensure these projects reflect community needs.
